Here we go again. Check it here
Excerpt:

quote:
In a desperate bid to get consumers to sample music by new musicians, labels are actually dropping prices for what may be the first time ever. Those $5-to-$10 stickers on releases by N.E.R.D., Norah Jones, Nappy Roots, and Andrew W.K. are no mistake. (And they''''re each worth investigating, from W.K.''''s steroid hair metal to Jones'''' folk-jazz dinner-party music to the frisky, unconventional hip-hop derivations of N.E.R.D. and Nappy Roots.)

< May 10, 2002: Message edited by: h2lentino >

If I''m looking at well-remastered 70+ minute compilation from original studio masters, done by a performer that has actually created 70+ minutes of good music over the yrs, preferably w/a large booklet that''s interesting & gives thorough & extensive info, I am usually willing to shell out over $15, since you''re talking about a great-sounding recording lengthy enuff to have been at least 2 LPs in the old days. However, I''m not gonna shell out much, if anything, for the flavors of the month that Borders, etc like to highlight in the listening area. Nor do I want to pay top dollar for reissues of jazz artists that have 18 tracks but only 10 songs, with 1, 2, or 3 alternate takes of various songs. And if they reissue a dressed-up version of the original LP will some lousy filler to add length, forget it. Of course, these are matters of taste, not just money. But I am through shelling out what, with tax, adds up to almost $20 for a single disc unless I''m very certain that I want it to be a part of my collection for a long, long time.
