OK, another stupid question, but instead of running separates and co-ax''''s with a 4 channel amp, is it possible to use 2 2-channel amps? For instance, using 2 60 watt Soundstream amps instead of 1 4 X 60 watt Alpine?
Are there any benefits to one over the other?

That should work fine. Lots of people do that.

No problem as long as you have space to mount your amps in.

S & V Moderator wink.gif border=0

So then, what type of crossover do I need?

just to add on to this question. is there a problem w/ running multiple amps in terms of your battery? b/c i was thinking of running one 450 watt amp for a sub, and then a pair of 75 wattX2 amps for the speakers.

If you have component speakers the crossovers are provided. You can get any decent crossover network for car stereos and have your installer tweak it for you.
S & V Moderator wink.gif border=0

Rynak,
Like Apcarandang said, no problem if you have the room, find a good installer and the crossovers that come with the components will split the signal from the Mids to the Tweeters.
However, you should use a High Pass crossover going to the Mids..around 80-100 Hz. Some amps have them at fixed points or completly variable.
Perhaps think about getting the 4 channel amp to save room...down the line you just might want to add a Sub and need room for that amp wink.gif border=0
Do listen to a car with "simple low cost" Subwoofer system, and you know what I am hinting at biggthumpup.gif border=0
It will make an even bigger differance while driving down the road because sub bass and road noise share about the same frequinces. And I do not mean those cars you hear a block away.
Good luck!
Dubs.

gummi,
That will not be a problem on the battery unless you play your system with the engine off till the battery goes dead...after about doing that 4-5 times then you will need a new battery even though if it gets fully recharged. I think if your alternater is around 90? ampres(sp) you should be good to go. We have 2 systems with similar wattage with NO problems. Adjust the fader on your head unit so that you hardly even notice your rear speakers if at all, it will help keep your soundstage up front, where you want to be, and mainly so it wont mess up the imaging!
That would be like listening to your home system or going to a concert and turning your back to the front stage speakers, it would sound horrible and a be a waste of money!
Good luck and hope this might help out some.
Dubs.
PS,
gummi, you might want to add a 1- farad cap, it will keep your headlights from dimming, but it has been proven that it won''t make your system sound better, so don''t fall for the techno voodoo hype...just let the salesman speak his words and be done with that part smile.gif border=0

What are you thinking about using?

You''ll know you need the capacitors if your lights dim when you''re playing your system.
Otherwise there''s no need to spend extra money for it.
You might want to put dynamat on your doors. They will make your systems sound better by isolating it from road noise.
S & V Moderator wink.gif border=0

gummi,
Jetta''s are on the quite side right off the showroom floor, cool car smile.gif border=0
Great point of using more sound deading in the doors! you may also get a slight gain in that all important seeked after mid bass response area too.
You could use some in the trunk too, cuts back on rattles you hear outside the car if that might be an area of concern to you at all.
You have picked nice equipment to put in your new ride. That Perfect is a Great sound quality sub and can play loud too biggthumpup.gif border=0 300 watts will work, but I have listened to a car and heard many people getting better results with 5 to 600 watts on each, and they can take it all day long.
Are you getting or have the JBL BP600? If you can swing it and find it, grab that BP1200.1, 600 x 1 @ 4 Ohms its only a few bucks more. Again, 300 watts WILL work fine on that sub.
Here is a link to an install in a Jetta, scroll down and click on NEXT icon for pictures. Oh yeah,
They did add METAL to brace the roof, but you could still see the roof flexing from the outside due to the subs output capabilties when turned up to stupid levels biggthumpup.gif border=0
Also, each front speaker is getting 150 each.
http://www.jlaudio.com/press/GTI/GTI_01.html
Dubs. PS,
redface.gif border=0 (we only have 100 X 4 in our rides..guess thats my whine of they week!)
SO gummi, good luck to you and thanks for RE-bringing that whine, well actually I did get used to it-- I now tend to shut my mouth so I don''t hear, "Go ahead and I won''t buy you any beer for a long time"
Sometimes they just have a good point, and that one Shut me up real fast, and really quick smile.gif border=0

PS,
I could probly find the link where thier VP of marking goes into more detail about the install, etc.
The systems first goal was built with getting the best soundstage and imaging(sp) possible.
Then for kicks, each sub gets 1000 watts to show how loud they can get and remain tight. it''s beem a while, but I think it''s SPL is around 150-155 DB''s!! Could you imagine what that must Feel like when the kick drum hits during Metalicals "ONE" slams into your body then passes through it? biggthumpup.gif border=0 biggthumpup.gif border=0 biggthumpup.gif border=0
Please step out of the vehicle and try to walk a straight line.
