View Full Version : Re: VIPER question.......
I have a Viper 600 installed on my 2001 Pontiac Sunfire. Here''''s the problem, apparently on this year Sunfire, the factory security system can only be disarmed by a GM dealer. The place I got it installed called the makers of Viper and they also referred him to a dealer. The problem is this: The factory alarm still arms itself if locked from within the car (using the power lock switch on the door) therefore if you use the Viper to unlock it, the factory alarm still thinks its locked, so when you open the door, the factory alarm sounds off. Right now, the Viper chirps once when arming and FOUR times when disarming, I don''''t believe this is normal. I brought it to THREE dealers, none of them have heard of this before and said they couldn''''t do anything about it. It can''''t be to complex of a process, basically I just want the factory alarm totally disabled!!! Any help would be MUCH appreciated!
Thanks,
Brent
A factory dealer has to do it.........The ability to disable the alarm is embedded in the onboard computer''s programming. Only a dealer will be able to access it. My mom had the same problem with her Pontiac Grand Prix.

Do the dealers you go to have a service center built in with them? You would have to go to the service center to get this problem fixed. There should be a way via the cars computer (as indicated by the previous replier). The service center should have a copy of the service manual(s) for the car (if they are any kind of GM service center at all), and in those manuals it should tell them how to do this. In the worst case scenario, they could look in the wiring diagrams and clip the power wire for the alarm if that''s what it takes.
If you want my opinion, they are just being lazy about the whole thing. There is no reason they should not be able to help you with this problem... Just be persistent, and tell them you want the factory alarm disabled "NOW!" wink.gif border=0 Talk to the service center manager about the lack of help you are getting with your problem. A little hint, If they still won''t help you, mention something about calling up the corporate office and complaining about there unwillingness to even try and help with the problem. smile.gif border=0
see, the main problem is, the place I bought my car is 45 minutes away. my local Pontiac dealer is the largest one in the state, and he is a dick. that''s why I didn''t get my car there. Well, with my job and what not, I can never get to my dealer 45 minutes away when they are open. So I have to go to my local dealer, and if you don''t buy your car from them, they treat you like crap. Then again, if they ARE a Pontiac dealer and I DO still have a warranty, they probably are obligated to do this. Correct?
anyways, thanks for the help so far smile.gif border=0

I''ve got access to "shop key" here at work. Let me check on the alarm system for your car & I will try to get back with you. Sorry guys, this is my first "visit" in the Mobile Electronics. Don''t know if I can help, but I will look. Another thing Pontiac is a GM, the vehicle can go to any GM dealer, the are "crosstrained" but sometime different dealers will TRY to send you to the dealer where you got the unit, yes some Service writers are *&^%%&*(

Phenom is right, you have to have a Scan Tool to access the cars computer to disable the CTD system. The GM dealer here charges $75 for this service (have to pay for the equipment & the techs knowledge). You would have to pay an independent shop also, go to a dealer IMO.
I love a good old fashioned squaredance... Yee haw...
