View Full Version : Re: Archos Multimedia Jukebox Alternatives?
I just purchased the Archos Multimedia Jukebox (20) directly from Archos, but haven''''t opened it yet. I''''m disappointed with the small screen size. I want to use it mainly to store and view my JPEG photos. I seem to remember reading recently about a similar unit that has a bigger screen.
I think RCA is soon coming out with the LYRA 2780, but I think it only records and plays MPEG videos and not JPEG photos.
Does anyone out there know of a portable device that can store huge amounts of JPG photos that has a larger screen? Any comments from users of the Archos Multimedia Jukebox?
Any info and/or comments would be appreciated!!
Thanks, dat513
< March 19, 2003: Message edited by: dat513 >

Man, I am really starting to love this jukebox, mp3, storage, video stuff in a Walkman-like unit. The whole thing is amazing when you sit back and think about where the Sony Walkman was 10 years ago. There was the battle between Sony and Aiwa for supremacy among the portable cassette player manufacturers. CASSETTE!!!
Anyway, on Tech TV there is a show called Fresh Gear. Last week''s topic was the portable media device. The Archos that you have is the best thing out there for viewing and listening. It does the multimedia like nobody else. However, they mentioned that by the end of the year there will be "a few" options available that will give the Archos a run for its money.
I think you are getting a lot for the money with the Archos and should probably stay with it. I have the iPod because music is the only thing I am interested in. And even when you look at the Archos vs iPod, the iPod is very pricey with the same storage as the 20 GB Archos. If the Archos had a face like the iPod you''d have the best of both worlds. Just like anything else, there are always trade-offs. That''s when technology pisses me off most.
Thanks ABC for your input. I''m inclined to commit and finally open the Archos this weekend and do that voodoo.
As far as new innovations 6 months down the road, the end of the year is the end of the year and I''ll worry about it then.
Again, thanks for you help. dat
