Hi guys, its been awhile. I have a couple quick questions.
(1) I just bought a four channel amp and four new speakers for my car, should be a fun weekend project. /idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif Here''s my problem. The only place I can fit the amp is in the trunk. I am planning on wiring the remote turn on and the power cable through the left side, and the rca''s on the right to avoid noise from the power cables. But what should I do with the speaker wire for front left speaker? It would be a lot easier and cheaper to run it to the trunk along the left side of the car, but that would mean it would be right next to the power & remote turn on wires, which could lead to interference. Would this be ok, and is there anything else I can do to prevent noise?

(2) I am planning on soldering the speaker wire to the speakers because I have better wire (12 gauge) than what came with the speakers. Is soldering the best idea, or where could I buy slide terminals for bigger wire. And if I were to solder, is there a preferred type of solder I should use?

Thanks Again!
~J

1. Running the wires by the power cable wouldn''t be good, but if it has to be done it has to be done. Another way is to run the cables through the plastic between the headliner and the door, then run them down the pillar between the doors (if a four door) and into the door to the speaker. I have also heard twisted pairs is a good way to prevent noise but am not quite sure.

2. COF recomended in the accesories forum to crimp strands and to solder single cables. But in the case or car audio you might want to solder especially if it is a good speaker and you really turn it up it could vibrate loose unless it is soldered.

another quick piece of advice would be to look up your car on some car audio sites like soundomain and ask users with the same car how they wired it and if they have any advice to do better. Good Luck.

I don''t think I can add anymore to what Phatbass has already said. I can give you some general installation tips, that might help you out a bit.

Get a small box to put all your screws in, and remember where the long ones go and the short ones go.

Take your time with door panels and interior panels. If you get in a rush and pull them off without being carefull, they may not go back on right. A lot of cars now use molded plastic clips that break off easily.

After everything is hooked up, turn your car on and test it out before putting the interior back in the car. Just in case it doesn''t work, you won''t have to tear it back out again.

Also, with the interior out of the car, you can try running the left speaker cable near the power wire (typically not a wise idea) and see if you get any interferance. If you don''t then by all means go for it. I do like the idea Phatbass had with the door pillar.

I have always used female spade connectors for my speakers and have never had a problem with them coming off or a poor connection. Solder will always provide a better electrical connection. I am clumsy with solder and have always been scared of getting a dribble of it landing on the speaker cone.

Have fun with your project, and good luck. If it gets frustrating, stop working and have a beer or two. /idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif

Thanks for the response guys! I do like some of those ideas. I think I will try Phatbass'' idea of running the wire up the pilar, sounds like more fun anyway. And TKE had a couple good ideas as well, including keeping all the screws somewhere, I know I will prolly lose a few of those, or end up with a few extra. And as far as having a few, I think next to a screwdriver, a cooler full of Leinie''s Red is the most important tool I''ll have. /idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif

~J
