View Full Version : Re: ISO: tips on buying CD recorder for stereo system
February 3rd, 2002, 17:32
Hello, I''''''''m hoping someone can make some suggestions for me. I''''''''m prepared to spend around $300-400 or so for a CD recorder component to add to my stereo system. My immediate goal is to record LP''''''''s in my old collection onto CD (yes, I know some of you will say to stick to my LP''''''''s for the superior sound, but I still want to have CD copies). However, I will also copy some existing cd''''''''s and make some compilation disks as well.
From the little I''''''''ve seen, here are my other things I wonder: 1-should I get the text feature, and if so, are there any considerations here? 2-any reason to be concerned about those with no recording level controls? I tend to want one I can control myself. 3-any particular reason to be concerned with a microphone capability?
Thanks for any of you willing you share your thoughts. Glen

I would not know how get started.
MCM has some stuff that looks like it may be in the mediocre-ok range. There are also some kits that I have seen, but they look goofy and cost more than a good entry level sub. Several companies are starting to make amps for home made subs.
I would reccomend building a sub for fun and the experience or for a specific custom application, not to save money. There are some good subs readily available for a little more than you could build one for that sound good. Look to the car audio world for tips on building a solid enclosure.

I bought my father a 10" JBL for his home theater room, and it it performs extremely well, considering it was well under $300.
partsexpress now has a complete kit made with a dayton titanic 10", a 240 watt rms amp, class ab, and the cabinet all for around $350. it is getting pretty good reviews, well, the ones that are posted on their site! anyway, it is designed for parts express by none other than the god of DIY, vance dickason! good luck! building your own speakers is an adventure.
