Someone asked me what the advantage of having a HDTV is over a regular TV when viewing DVD''''''''s. In terms of picture quality, I believe that hdtv is better but i could not explain why. A little help please.

For front
speakers, you will want to go with a direct radiating speaker <i.e. your standard speaker>. The dipoles are really best for surround speakers.
I would take a look at B&W, Paradigm, NHT and Definitive Technologies for speakers that fit your price range. I think that B&W 603 S2''s <smaller floor standers> will work with your budget. B&W is coming out with a Series 3 version of the 600 series speakers so that might drive down the prices of the old Series 2 units. Perhaps you can get 604 S2''s in your price range if there is discounting of the Series 2...

Pork Masta,

I was just at a local shop and they were selling a demo pair of 602s2 for $400 and a demo LCR6 for $380. I would guess about half what was paid for a 602s1.

I think that for purely movie playback, then dipoles will be fine for the surround speakers... If you plan on multichannel music, then direct radiating speakers are the better choice...
