i''''''''''''''''ve just been reading the forums lately and have noticed some people talking about driving speakers w/ seperate amps (mainly Rotel). just wondering exactly what the amp does (just provide more power?) and how you hook it up and everything. thanks a lot everyone

Some (all?) DVD audio discs will play in 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound on any DVD player. That is the same type of surround sound that is found on most DVD movies. There are other types of sound you can''t get from anything but a DVD-Audio player--there''s a different version of surround sound designed just for DVD-Audio, & a DVD-Audio version of 2-channel stereo. Warner Bros & its subsidiaries put all 3 of the aforementioned formats on each of their DVD-A discs. So with their discs, you could listen to the DD 5.1 version on a standard DVD player, but not the other formats. I''m merely rephrasing what I''ve read. I don''t own any DVD-A discs. Anyone who knows more about this, please post.

You can buy a DVD-A disc and still listen to it on your DVD player on Dolby Digital only. They contain the 5.1 DD tracks in the hope that you''ll be impressed and go get a DVD-A player. If you want the full resolution audio you''ll need a DVD-A player.
I have the JVC 723GD DVD/DVD-A player in my main HT room and there really a big difference in the sound quality. DVD-A sounding much cleaner and crisper too.
Try the Buena Vista Club DVD-A and you''ll be amazed.
If you''re going to upgrade to DVD-A later on then just think of it as buying software before you buy the hardware.
wink.gif border=0
