i''''ve been into audio gear quite awhile, last three years have had massive equipment die-off, since been poor for awhile, my av system was a 13 in tv, mono of course. if you sit close enough, it can subtend the same angle as a 61" projection, just tilt it back a bit and it''''s widescreen.
last good system had vmps super tower r''''s, 15" woofer, 15 " passive, 12" midbass, 2 4"mids, 2 1" domes, a ribbon and a piezo supertweeter, 96 db efficiency. had 2 bridgeable amps, so had 1000 w/ch, sometimes went outside to listen. still, didn''''t have that live sound i''''ve been searching for that you can get in even some of the crappiest clubs.
so, newly un-poor, just picked up a couple of def tech 3000tl''''s for the fronts, 2000tl''''s for the rears, and a crl3000 for center (might explain sign-on name). just have a pioneer elite vsx-33tx, bout 80-100 w/ch for receiver. the speakeres:
3000: 18" 1000w powered sub (rated to 13 hz.)
2000: 15" 500w powered sub (rated to 15 hz)
clr3000: 10" 150w powered sub (first ever powered center)
that''''s over 3 kw just for the bass
i was floored by the sound, damn near scared me. i have found my grail, or awfully close, it does sound like live, feels like it to.
icing on the cake, wednesday my cinepro 6k3''''s come in, 400w/ch, all 6 channels driven, any two bridgeable to 1000w. thank god my nearest neighbors are over a thousand feet away. i''''m learning how to weld.
if your pants vibrate against your leg, that''''s alot of bass, when your guts start vibrating, thats a lot of v. deep bass.
looking forward to some serious vibrating viscera.
thanks for letting me vent some excitement, sorry bout the length.
rob

Awesome!
Rememeber when we were kids and our parents warned us not to swin right after we pounded down four hot dogs at the family picnic at the lake? For fear of stomach cramps?
Well...
DON''T EAT FOUR HOTDOGS BEFORE WATCHING A MOVIE AT MAS_BASS''S HOUSE OF BASS MADNESS! IT COULD GET MESSY!
I have a pal with a similar all Def Tech powered tower system... sounds so great. Enjoy and welcome to Forum. And that Cinepro amp is outrageous! I have witnessed it''s destructive power (akin to the Death Star of home theater amplifiers... even planets will cower in fear of it''s output) as well and it is mega dynamic. No holds barred.
Enjoy, enjoy.
tongue.gif border=0
Monkey

What brand of interconnects and speaker cables do you use?

February 19th, 2002, 16:25
I don''t think you want to go there!!!

No, definately go there. And I don''t mean that to be rude or sarcastic at all. I am very curious what mas_bass uses to string up this very fine system so that we all might get a clear picture of just what is the bare minimum of quality in wire that he finds to be adaquate but not a "rip off". Let''s find out. There is nothing rude or mean spirited about this question at all, and I ask it in the purest spirit of HIFI curiosity.
Monkey

didn''t check this thread for awhile, i am not really sure of brandnames of my interconnects, i probably have 10-15 various brands, some likely upwards of 20 years old. haven''t bought any lately. i would buy just about anything that looked well made and had gold coated contacts to assist in corrosion control and didn''t cost an arm and a leg. i have some pretty cheap and very old looking things that often serve just fine.
speaker wire is the same way, it''s whatever pieces i can find at the time i''m hooking things together, though with the new system, i am finally going with banana plugs for the covenience. i''ve tried to keep it at 12-14 ga for my mains, but now with powered subs in all the speakers, you should be able to relax resistance requirments a bit as most of the current into a speaker is in the bass. i think with this new setup i will just run 12 ga romex for at least most of the runs since i still have almost half the thousand feet of the stuff i bought to rewire my 110 year old house.
well i went there, that wasn''t too bad was it? i know some of the extreme tweaks out there are cringeing and/or laughing, oh well. i guess my electrons just ain''t as sophisticated as their electrons.
rob

I was wondering when you were going to get around to answering this post.
Funny that in your continued "denial" of the validity of name brand wire that you pointed out some of it''s key performance advantages... better contact material for better transmission of signal... and reasonable gauge speaker wire to ensure good bass response.
Funny how we could apply these outrageous ridiculous performance enhancing "tweaks" to any $29 to $39 pair of Monster (or any brand) interconnects.
Why don''t you stick to the little stringy red and black cables that come out of the box and lamp cord for speaker wire? If you''re going to talk the talk... walk the walk.
tongue.gif border=0
Monkey
