I saw this and thought it might start a good discussion here. It doesn''t affect me much, since I don''t even have an HDTV yet. I remember someone asking awhile back, about recorders for Blu-ray and HD DVD. See article here
Hmmm ... I thought that BD or HD DVD disks storage would get a better bang for the buck ... compared to a hard disk.
A BD-R (write once) costs approximately 60 per GB, and you can only write one time to the disc. A BD-RE (rewritable) costs about 90 per GB.

A Hard Drive costs approximately 42 per GB, is faster, easier, and virtually infinitely rewritable.

The price of writable discs will come down, but people generally don''t really archive stuff in the US like they do in Japan. We want to record a show, watch it once or twice, then toss it out. Hence the massive popularity of DVRs in the US. We don''t really buy many recordable DVD players.

This article is about stand alone recorders. Nearly all of the PC drives will be recordable drives, because for data BD and HD-DVD will be huge.
