<div>I read my latest issue of S&V, where there was a blu-ray player shootout between the PS3, a Samsung BD-P1000 and a Panasonic DMP-BD10. Al Griffin said he preferred the PS3 as a blu-ray player, which I thought was pretty impressive, especially since the other two are over $1000. I think that gave me that little nudge I wanted. Sorry if this was already mentioned elsewhere.</div><BR><div> </div><BR><div>What did you guys think about this?</div><BR>

<div>I hate the idea of using a game console as a dvd player, but for the price it''s hard not to look at. I''ve been kicking around getting the hd-dvd player for the xbox 360. With the wifes discount at work and a free movie to boot, plus it''s connected to the internet for firmware upgrades, it''s hard to justify a stand alone player. The only bad thing, no hdmi output or analog for DD+. Good luck in your decision Gil.</div><BR><div>Rob</div><BR>

<div>I''m using both the PS3 and HD drive for the 360 as my HD players. In terms of video quality, both are excellent (1080p for the PS3 via HDMI, 1080i for the 360 via component). Haven''t compared the same movie in both formats but doubt there is a significant difference. (I''m using a Sony 70" XBR SXRD).</div><BR><div> </div><BR><div>The PS3 is an excellent Blu-Ray player. Just doesn''t seem to be a reason to get a stand alone player. Better than the Samsung I had earlier this summer with the chip issue.</div><BR><div> </div><BR><div>The add on drive for the 360 is almost as good but I have three issues:</div><BR><div>1. The 360 (not the HD driveitself) is noisy where the PS3 is extremely quiet.</div><BR><div>2. Audio quality seems compressed - others have noticed this on other forums.</div><BR><div>3. No 1080p via component on many TVs, including my Sony. There may be a future fix for this</div><BR>

<div>I played around w/ our PS3 and <i>Talledega Nights</i> last night. 1080p output to my new TV was spectacular. The PS3 was quiet and fairly easy to operate. The biggest issue I would have w/ having it as a dedicated player is the "remote". I don''t know if it''s possible to use an IR remote w/ it or not since the controllers use bluetooth (coincidence on the "blue" thing?).</div><BR><div>I will watch some BD movies played on my PS3 in my new room.</div><BR><div>John</div><BR>
