Hi there,
I finally have my whole enterntainment system all set up. I live in an apartment and would like to hang my surround speakers up on the wall near the ceiling. The only problem is that since I live in an apartment I''''m unable to put the speaker wire in the wall.
Does anyone have any suggestions for speaker wire covers (Wire mold I''''ve heard it called), that will cover the wire up the corner of the wall.
Thanks.

How much do you want to spend? Just kidding, I''m in the same boat as you.
Since I''m renting the palce, I don''t want to rip open the walls put in speaker wire then close them up and repaint. If did this I''d have to leave the wire behind when I move.
What I''ve done is runt he speaker wires in the corner of the ceiling and wall. Then cover it with masking tape and paint over it. I find this to be much cheaper than ripping open the walls and then filling in the holes. And it''s nearly invisible once it''s painted.
Hope this helps.

G Bravo that''s a good idea. I will look into that. Unfortunately I don''t have the paint for the apartment...I''d have to get it from the landlord but maybe I can do that.
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul!
This is completely off topic, but it''s your screenname. All morning I thought it was a play on the spelling of "Forward", until you signed your first name. Anyways, welcome to the forum Paul Howard!
Now for those speaker wires, I''ve heard of a brand of speaker wire (I don''t recall the brand), that is flat, with an adhesive on one side, and the other side can be painted to match the walls. Someone else may have some insight as to the manufacturer. I''m sure I saw it in an issue of S and V some time ago. Good luck.
Scott.
biggrin.gif border=0 biggrin.gif border=0

You can find those at your local Home Depot or builders supply. IKEA also carries them. They are paintable so you can match them will your wall color. biggrin.gif border=0 biggrin.gif border=0 biggrin.gif border=0

Thanks guys. Appreciate the advice. One question though...is this the kind of adhesive that after 4 or 5 years on the wall, when you go to peal it off, the paint from the wall comes with it too?
Thanks.
< December 19, 2001: Message edited by: PHOWARD >

I forgot about the flat speaker wire, probably becuase I''ve been doing the tape and paint thing for so long. As far as the glue goes, I don''t think its the type that will fade afetr a few years, which means it''ll probably strip the paint.
As far as color goes, you can take a chip to your local hardware store and they can color match it.
< December 19, 2001: Message edited by: G Bravo >

i think the masking tape and paint thing is probably the best and cheapest route you''re gonna find. although you could probably go to home depot, lowes and see if they have anything there that can be used. i know i helped a friend of mine hide his and we used a plastic border of sorts that hid it quite well. you might also want to consider wallpaper. just cover up that nasty wire lol biggrin.gif border=0

I would venture to say that any adhesive that you put onto a wall, and leave there for a prolonged period will peel off some of the paint when you take off the adhesive... But even if you used wire mold, you would have to attach the wire mold to the wall in some manner, and even if you used mechanical fasteners <i.e. like screws / nails> it would still leave some damage to the walls when removed <i.e. the screw / nail holes>.

Excellent...I think I''ll try the masking tape idea. I''ll have to get the paint somehow but I think it''ll hide it very nicely. Hopefully my landlord won''t have a problem with it.
Thanks,
Paul

Actually, Home Depot carries Coax cable hiders in the speaker wire area. They are actually designed for Cable box coax. $10 will get you a 4ft. section and they make corner pieces. It has adhesive as well.
ALSO, AR makes wire tape it is a little on the pricey side. For a 50ft. roll, you have to shell out 50-60ft. long. Here are two ideas.
Masher

Here you go! Go to www.acousticresearch.com, click on AR Accessories. Click on the speaker interconnects, click on the Pro Series. Drag the left hand menu down to the Micro Flats. There you are! Best Buy and Lowe''s carry them. They come in White as a standard color, BTU they ARE paintable!
Hope this helps you out in anyway!
Masher
