1. How will changing the "small" and "large" settings in my speaker config affect the sound output? (my from spkrs are Polk RT55 ''''s, about 2'''' tall and rated for 200 W,would they be considered large? )
2. My "Monster" subwoofer RCA / Y-cable has an arrow on the wire (currently pointing torwards the Amp)... Is this the right direction? (The instructions were vague.)
As always, THANKS folks
J katz

Hi Jon!
Since you do have a subwoofer, set the speakers to "small". This directs the LFE (low frequency effects) to the sub., and lets the speakers handle only the middle and high frequencys. I believe this eases the workload of your amp., and helps with separation of surround effects.
As for the arrow question. I have no clue. Good luck.
Scott. biggrin.gif border=0

You may set your main speakers to large but send the LFE to the subwoofer. Again see if you like the sound better then decide which you prefer.
Have the arrows point away from the receiver. The arrow shows where the signal is headed. biggrin.gif border=0 biggrin.gif border=0 biggrin.gif border=0

I hate to be the boring one but the Pok manual that came with the speakers will say how to set them. You can get the manual online if you don''t have it.

My speakers are about a foot high and I have them set as large because the sound seems to be better out of them. It sounds like I might be putting more strain on my receiver though. I have my subwoofer connected to the same connectors as my front speakers (since my subwoofer has speaker wire attachments). There is a direct input into my receiver (Sony STR-DE975) for the subwoofer but it''s a plug input not a speaker wire input. When playing DVD movies the LFE frequency bar on my receiver goes about 2-3 bars. Is this good for my system? Any pointer?
Thanks.

Bob - manuals were vague (as they often are) on this point and I wanted a 2nd opinion.

I agree with ScottyT. The sound should be better if you set all your speakers to Small (even though you have floor standers) and leave the sub handling the LFE.

I would also lean toward the ''small'' is a better setting camp.
The way I see it, ''large'' or ''small'' doesn''t refer to the physical size of the speaker. It refers to the bass handling characteristics of the speaker in question.
It may seem like it sounds better on ''large'', but set the selection to ''small'' and direct the bass to the subwoofer. Then properly calibrate your speakers. After that, leave it alone for at least a week.
In my experience, when properly set up this way, the front speakers will ''produce'' more bass. By ''produce'', I mean it only seems that they do, but with the speakers properly calibrated the sub will pickup where the front speakers roll off. This also reduces the amount of work that the front speakers have to do.
Overall, the end result is up to you. I really think, you ought to try it for a week though. Then write back and tell us what you think.

I switched it to small and the difference was quite audible for the better. The front surround seemed more noticeable.
Much Thanks!
