View Full Version : Re: Integra 6.2 vs. Denon 2802

I recently purchased an Integra 6.2 receiver to go with my Polk Audio 6600 speakers. I was down to comparing the Onkyo Integra 6.2 (100w x 5) and the Denon 2802 (90w x 6) when the salesperson swayed me to the Integra when he stated the RS-232 connection would allow for future decoding upgrades. Since my purchase, I called Integra and they said future upgrades only apply to their one top of the line receiver. I am re-evaluting the specifications of these two receivers and am having second thoughts if I made the right choice. I was able to get the Integra for slightly less than what the Denon 2802 sells for retail, so for about the same amount of money, I now wonder if the Denon would have been a better choice. The specifications on the Denon that stand out to me over the Integra are the DD & DTS 6.1 decoding, DTS Neo:6, adjustable High/Low pass crossover, and one spec worded as "5.1 external wide bandwidth (100 kHz) input for future multi-channel inputs such as DVD-Audio". I haven''''t upgraded my DVD player yet and didn''''t realize that maybe I need to make sure my receiver can handle the input from a DVD player capable of DVD-Audio or SACD. I only have a short time to make a decision on whether to exchange my Integra receiver so your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I looked at my Integra receiver and I do have a multi-channel input. I currently have my audio from my DVD connected with the digital optical connection. Is this multi-channel input an upgraded feature that will be used when I upgrade my DVD? Also, I''m aware that the Integra comes with a longer warranty and upgraded internal parts but don''t know if that is worth the trade off when the Denon receiver has 6.1 decoding and I might regret not being able to add another speaker. Also, the extra listening modes would be nice. Thanks.

I paid $738 for the Integra 6.2 receiver at a local authorized dealer in Dallas. You can''t purchase from them online. I am very new to this technology and have tried to research to get the best receiver in this price range but as you can tell from my previous post I am still questioning my selection. One thing I notice about the Integra is I have to push the volume control to about 1/2 way to start getting some loud sound. Volume max is 75. Depending on the input source, once I hit anywhere from 35 (DTS) to 50 (TV & DD), the volume seems to increase at a faster ratio than the lower volume settings. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
< December 20, 2001: Message edited by: Denise >

Denise, in your first post, you questioned the DENON specs having "5.1 external wide bandwidth input for future multi-channel inputs such as DVD-audio or SACD" . I own a 2802 and it does in fact have 6 channel analog inputs for just that purpose.

The Integra is better than the Denon in this aspect, IN MY OPINION! Well, then again they are both good receivers. confused4.gif border=0
Masher
< December 25, 2001: Message edited by: Masherbrum >
