View Full Version : Re: Sub Placement Question

Is having the sub face the same way as the speakers ideal?
I am planning to get the Servo 15. Do you think I should keep the X15 sub control unit or ditch it?

Subs generally don''t care which they face, so it is not usually a major factor in placement.
As for the second question, I will have to hand that off to someone else.

driver orientation doesn''t matter except incidentally to other considerations(you don''t want the driver facing a wall..an inch from it for example).A much more important consideration is where in the room the subwoofer enclosure itself is located.
As for the XO box...you''ll need to determine if it enhances the subwoofer''s performance in any way. Modern DD receiver''s all have nice built-in subwoofer (lowpass)crossovers...so the crossover module from paradigm may be superfluous for this application.
TV

Correct me if I''m wrong but without the X30 (or whatever the exact model # is), don''t you have zero control (on board the sub) over any crossover frequency, level or phase?
If your receiver or pre-amp/processor can do all of these things, then you won''t need the X30.
Otherwise, you might want to think twice??
(IMO, it''s hard enough to get a sub to blend well with the other speakers in a typical HT setup. If you are out of phase or can''t dial in the volume correctly, I''d think it would be nearly impossible. (Of course, a parametric equalizer would also come in handy...))
