Hello, I am new to the forum but i have been reading articles here from time to time. I have a pair of very well kept Infinity SM122 speakers. I have them hooked up to an old stereo integrated amp, Kenwood KA128 135 wpc with a separate tuner, cassete deck, and cd player. I just noticed a couple days ago that one of my woofers were not working. I ended up purchasing some used ones on Ebay, which i thought i would never find, but in the process of shipping and packing the woofers got destroyed due to lack of properly placing woofers together during shipping. Keep in mind these speakers are 9 yrs old. The foam was totally seperated from the woofer. Infinity does not sell replacement speakers for this model anymore. Any thoughts of a good replacement woofer? I checked around and found some Infinity subwoofers at CC for 109$ with 8ohm compatibility. What should i do? I am not interested in refoaming the damaged speakers even though they still play.

<DIV>You can''t expect similar performance from non-identical speakers. </DIV><BR>
<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><BR>
<DIV>A woofer has to be matched to the enclosure to get good bass performance and it has to be matched to the crossover in order for the blending between the woofer and tweeter (or midrange). </DIV><BR>
<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><BR>
<DIV>The best bet would be to refoam those old drivers. Either you can do it or you can have a service do it. </DIV><BR>
<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><BR>
<DIV>I do not suggest replacing the woofers with anything else. </DIV>

I aquired a set of 12'' Pyle Pro woofers from a friend who was about throw out a pair of poorly made custom speaker. So I stripped them from the cabinets. My SM 122's from 1989ish had been in storage for 10 years and I pulled them out during my recent divorce to find the foam on the woofers deteriorate. So I'm thinking they are trashed. I pulled woofers out and was surprised the magnets were not substantial in weight. I put the Pyle's in the holes but the holes were an 1/8'' too small so I cut the hole a wee larger to accomidate the Pyles, which are 800w peat and 200w RMS with 60oz magnet. When I finished I cranked 200w into them and was in awe because they now hit lower bass but not overpowering the highs. They sound very strong in sound with very little distortion at very high volume levels. Pyle Pros are around $80 a set. If you want I can email pictures of the finished speakers.
