How many of you have installed any acoustic treatments or any non-cosmetic furnishings designed to improve acoustics in your HT?

Guilty as charged. And loving every minute of it. Actually, my panels have 1 nail at the top and are velcroed on the bottom so I can mix and match the absorptive and reflective panels as i see fit. Some may think I've over done it. Maybe so. But it was a function follow form type of thing. Or visa versa. The next step will be bass traps in the 2 front corners.

Del

That's a pretty nice setup you got going on there.

I like the polk's you've got. Also like the way you've got the receiver etc... recessed into the wall with access from behind. Very cool.

Must be a pain to listen to vinyl though. haha

D

Absorptive panels at first reflection points and all over the wall behind the speakers. There's a bookcase on the back wall for dispersion, does that count?

I have a friend with an RTA and the skill to use it correctly. (I have neither). My plan is to complete the room and then take some measurements and treat the room accordingly. I have a ways to go before that point. I want to live with the system for a while first as well... so I can really hear how the room sounds before any treatment so I can understand and appriciate what changes need to be made and what effect they have as I make them.

Monkey

PS. I will definately be taking advantage of some of the links you (COF) has provided... all good stuff. There are no HIFI shops around me that have much to offer in terms of acoustic treatments... room EQ technology... etc... that all may change as the HT market gets warmed up to the concept of room tuning.

Hey Del44, u should switch the placement of your subs and mains. Then put the subs closer to the corners of the room, u should get a very noticable jump in your woofers capabilities.

Elvisator, I originally had that configuration. Even had the subs stacked in the left corner. Since moving the mains farther apart my soundstage has opened up alot. I have considered going back to the original set-up and still keep the mains as far apart as possible. I'm sure i'm getting some bass cancellations with this current set-up.

If you want to improve the soundstage, I would move the couch much closer to the TV and speakers and move the speakers in a foot, or so.

I would like to move my sofa a little closer to the tv. I just don't know what to do with the 2 chairs. The room isn't wide enough to have everything side-by-side. And if I move the chairs forward, the same amount as the sofa, they would be to close to the tv area i'm afraid. Right now the viewing area from the sofa to the tv is about 13'. And the front speakers are 11' apart.

I laid out my room with the gear along the long wall as opposed to the normal short wall to help the sound in my particular basement setting. Paid particular attention to spacing of speakers in regards to my listening position and have them away from side walls, plenty of room behind and quite a bit in front of the RPTV.

In addition I've put a few absorption panels behind the TV but not the speakers as they are bipolar and I actually wanted the rear reflection as that is the speakers strength. The panels helped "calm" some of it in the middle.

Most of my furnishings are cosmetic but arranged with a purpose to help in dispersion. ( Bookshelves with misaligned books, knick knacks, etc. )

I think ( know ) overall I've helped the situation, but have not done quite as much as I probably should. But I'm satisfied nonetheless. '/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif'
