Went shopping for supplies for the DIY absorption panels last night. Not sure if the Armstrong ceiling tiles I bought were correct as they are only 5/8" thick. What does the fiberglass look like? Soft? Hard? I was going to order Owens 703 from RealTraps but they aren''t selling it anymore (http://www.realtraps.com/products.htm). Suggestions?

I cannot tell if that is equivalent to Owens Corning 703 or 705. Being only 5/8" thick is not good. With 703 you need at least 1" to be effective below 2kHz. With 705 you might get by with 5/8", but you'd be much better off with 1" or 2".

You should call the local Owens Corning dealers and order what you need.

Go to the web and punch in Owens, there you will find how to contact your Owens dealers in your area.
Took me a few tries to find the 705 I was looking for.

Al

Man did I get lucky with ordering the 705 from realtraps, I wonder why they stopped selling it?

----------------

We're sorry to announce that REALTRAPS no longer sells rigid fiberglass. As much as we like to help the Do It Yourself community, we are no longer able to get rigid fiberglass in boxes small enough to ship by UPS or FedEx.

----------------

I stopped by Lowe's this morning and was told the minimum order was half a truck load (this was straight from Owens-Corning). I'm waiting to hear back from the local sales rep to see if I can get a single box...

Check out McMaster-Carr and do a search for fiberglass sound insulation. They have many different sound absorbing materials and panels.

just double or triple layer the fibre panels within your acoustic panel
