View Full Version : Re: Coaxial or Toslink

February 2nd, 2002, 16:30
I''''ve just bought a new receiver for my HT system. My old receiver was only "digital-ready", so I ran analog cables from my DVD player (which has built-in decoders) for 5.1 sound.
Which is the better way to connect the player digitally to the receiver, coaxial or Toslink? Is there really a difference in performance?

Both types connections should work equally well. But coax is more robust than optical. Just make sure whichever you decide on, get a well made connector.
Have fun with your new receiver.
wink.gif border=0

Ah, the old optical vs. coaxial digital cable question! smile.gif border=0 I would advise that you do some searches in this section, as well as the Home Theater section for this topic, as it has come up a few times before. Perhaps the best encompasing thread was:
http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=000402

I hear no difference.

personally.. there shouldn''t be a difference.. but i would go with optical anyways.. even though it''s more delicate.. it''s cheaper... and sounds the same.
