Gold teeth: Thanks for letting me have the Mackies at a good price. S&V rule of courtesy to other members still applies, thankfully. Over the last two months I have been watching auctions and prices tended to be 650-850. With my Paraound Halo p-3 and the NAD T-533 I should be good to go in the den.

Denny: I believe the Thorens should work perfectly. I only stopped using it because I was spoiled by the Yamaha music server. I may need to replace the Ortofon cartridge. I didn't know you were into vinyl. Cool!

Maybe you just need a new stylist? Although they can cost as much as the whole cartridge! Yes, I have been spinning vinyl for a couple years now and have somewhere between 1500 and 3000 albums.

I was reading and re-reading the posts trying to figure out why MUDSHARK needed a Stylist. I thought perhaps it was an inside joke I was missing out on, and I felt like a loner on the forum. But then it hit me!!!

    Stylus.

Well, Sir, perhaps Denny was alluding to the fact that I need both.

Thats a pile of albums. I have perhaps 300, mainly collected in my youth through 1986 or so. Only half are in excellent condition as a result of BSR turntables and lack of care before I knew better.

Well, I didn't want to actually say it......but now that it has been brought up........He is not called MudShark for nothing!>!>!>!

Thanks IG, he might need one of those too!

I had the opportunity to pick of a few collections at very good prices and before I knew it, they were everywhere. The last collection was 1000ish albums and I looked through one box and saw mint condition Jazz and could not pass it up. Although I didn't want 1000 more albums, but I had to take the whole collection or nothing. The Lady I got them from had an amazing collection and now I do!

So do you have the speakers yet, Mud???

The Mackie's arrived last night. Not sure what the settings should be. Perhaps I.G. has a thread around somewhere detailing reccomended settings. I will post a picture (if I remember how) in a few days of the first location. I may have to shift the filing cabinet and bookshelves around later. They seem to play pretty loud, definitely more than enough for the den. My guess is that 5 of these would make a pretty fair HT in a medium sized room. Played a Gary Moore album last night and was impressed as I knew I would be.

    Setting?

    I recommend these:
    - High Freq. =
    -2dB

    - Low Freq. =
    With sub, 47Hz.
    Without sub, 37Hz.

    - Acoustic Space =
A - if against wall and near corner
B - if against rear wall but not near side walls or floor
C - if out in the room at least 2 to 3 feet from all walls & floor

Also, I recommend setting the level controls at the center position as a start. If you hear any hiss at all when the speakers are on and the preamp is turned down as low as it will go, then lower the level controls until the hiss isn't audible at the listening position. Use an SPL meter to ensure both speakers are set to the same level if you stray from the detented center position.
