Rich,
I have a great Idea. Tell her I loaned you the amps. Then in a year (really 5 months ) you can say steve w wants his amps back now and oh jeeze now I must give them back to him. So I think it is time to buy the Pre pro and Amps I really want. She will say OK you have been a good boy and have not bought any gear for a long time and let you upgrade to your hearts content. It works for me. Just Email me when your ready to mail them and I will give you my address. Im here for you man. |

Quote from Rich:
Cans''t not a man but change even as the seasons, and hold fast verily to his pledge. Forsaking upgrades but for a purpose as yet unknown, with dangling purse untouched? Nay, wenches shall not but sway my course, though they stiffen my.....resolve. For how much sweeter next the upgrade that is proceeded by prolonged anticipation and soft yearning. And the spouse, yea, to deceive or not deceive, as her eyes but glace at racks electronic, and observe little in the way of material change. Tis is quandry not taken lightly. Abstain I will, I ================================================== ======== That''s pretty good, Rich. You sound like Richard Burton. I still think you''re full of crap........but you sound like Richard. |

Okay, buddy..........you''ve got to play with the new amps.......bet you made a "little" room to put the dusty Denon & polished the shelf for that Lexicon..........just in case one just happens to "appear"..........Isn''t it amazing how the friends come out of the woodwork when the dusty equipment might need a new home.........you''ve got my address also. Rich-
Congratulations! You gotta love a guy with a long term HT plan. I''ve ordered the B&K 200.5 and am doing prep work on the wife for the matching Ref 50. If I remember correctly (there''s a stretch!) you auditioned a number of amps, Rotel, B&K, Krell, etc..., so how did Rotel end up winning your $$$$? |

swatchdog,
I got the Rotel(s) for two reasons: the amps were in Stereophiles Guide recommended components (a very high end mag), and all the praise they get here among people I respect. They also "suit" my current system, which I would consider mid range, not high end. I also weaned myself away from a seven channel amp in favor of two amps, down the road a 3 channel for the center and mains, and a 5 channel for the surrounds and rears with one channel extra. I play a lot of stereo music, sometimes the surround speakers and formats get in the way. When I''m honest with myself I know I won''t be happy until I have a true high end system, I''m a musician on the side, I have the bug, thankfully finances are pretty good, so the Rotels round out what I currently have, and they sound great in my system. Good luck on the B&K stuff, I gave them a long hard look, and they are excellent. The curse of HT is hearing the good stuff. |

What about the new Def Tech tower speakers and the Denon 2900 due out in May?

wine4et,
I will definately consider the new DT towers down the road, as they would actually give me more room, 1 tower versus a tower and sub on each side. As long as we have this house I will also probably stay with DT as they throw a bigger soundstage than any speaker I have ever heard, and my room is an acoustical mess, big, lots of wood and stone, large openings, bipolars overcome a lot of that, directional speakers have too small a sweet spot (for my room). In a different room I would look at B&W or Sonus Faber, but frankly the DT''s have really grown on me, the Rotel did exactly what I was hoping and gave music a lot more presence and natural sound. I was listening to a chamber orchestra and noticed a very feint "clicking" sound, an oboe had the lead and it was the metal mechanism you play to change notes that I was hearing, I could hear the stops opening and closing, that''s presence. The 2900 is basically my 3800 with SACD added and without Alpha 24 processing. It would be a sideways move for me plus I use the Alpha24 processing with my CD''s. Doesn''t make sense for me. Don''t you have DT''s ? Or am I confusing you with someone else............. |
