...and so I have another new portable headphone amp. This one cost me a whopping $10 in a package deal from Head-Direct with the RE2 IEM. I've only used the Fiio E5 amp with my Creative MuVo DAP at low volume with RE2.Sometime latter I'll torture it with HD 650.

Fiio E5

The RE2 IEM's still need much more break-in time. These are my new sleep time IEMs to replace my aging ER6. No comments on SQ yet.

In the next 2 weeks there could be a third installment here...more expensive than Fiio E5.

...so I now have the RSA SR-71A "Black Bird" in my hands. Listening to it now with 6G iPod , line out with HD 650. This amp used two 9 volt batteries and there's a large increase in power over my other RSA amp, the P-51. At low volumes the P-51 is slightly more desirable...more detailed because it has a forward midrange but it clips/distorts with bass heavy music when pushed hard. The SR-71A allows for a high volume without distorting...a very nice portable amp. This amp was voiced primarily using the HD 600.

...so, last week I bought another portable HP amp. This one is a repeat. I bought a HeadRoom Micro amp (new) from HeadRoom in 2006, then sold it later to a Head-Fi member who lives nearby.

This Micro is identical to my old one ( with the better sounding "Desktop module"). I had sold mine due to the short 9 hour battery life. I wasn't using rechargeable 9 volt batteries at the time so I was turned off by that but I liked the excellent build quality and great sound...so I saw a great deal on a used Micro(I'm the fourth owner) and jumped...still is great condition. These things have tank-like build quality...I'm using Tysonic Ni-MH(2 pairs) and have just ordered a pair of iPower 500 mAH 9 Volt Lithium Polymer.

Here's a pic of my old Micro:

In all honesty, I can see where I could become seriously addicted to the headphone- mania. There are so dayum many neato little gadgets that have to be tried, and there just enough money so they're financialy in reach.

The Woo A6 has been haunting me ever since I was exposed. (Thanks a lot Dane)

...hmmm, I've got a few W6 pic in Evil Things to help you step over to...yuk yuk = )

But you are correct...so many gadgets, so little time...err, money.

Rays Samuel's new portable amp, the "Shadow" is haunting me...not even released yet, and then there's Justin's (HeadAmp) Pico Slim...both ultra small amps with big sound. My wallet is doomed.
