Those two speakers are going to sound very different. You need to go audition and find out what speaker YOU prefer.

And I also completely agree with Maximo's statement. (I'm just very agreeable in this thread)

I agree with Razz (lot of agreement here ). I think your best bet is to go out and demo the brands that have peaked your interest. We can list brands that we like, but if your ears like or don't like it, then that is what matters most.

I think it is safe to say that that a $250/pr speakers is going to sound a lot better than a $250 5.1 HTiB system. Some of the brands you have mentioned, like the Klipsch Reference speakers, will cost more than $250 but they are a better performing speaker than what you would find at your local Best Buy.

If you are wanting to upgrade to better sound, then you have two options:

1) Build piece by piece. Start with the best sounding pair for the fronts, then add the sub or surrounds, then your matching center.

2) Save your money and buy everything at once.

Option 1, imo, is your best bet. The main reason why is most of the system usage will be the front speakers. You want those to be the best performing for the money. This is especially true if you're a music lover.

But I think for the time being, you should just go out and listen to as many brands as you are able to do. Make notes of what you liked from each brand and then see which one best suits your tastes.
