I have never really given much thought to RCA''s in the past for TV''s, but after reading December''s review of the new Scenum 61" (HD61THW263), I''ve reconsidered. Although the 61" is a bit out of my price range, there are other DLP models that I now hoave questions about. Example: the 50" HD50LPW162. So what does the 10k model have that the 2k doesn''t, other than the size of course. A comparison of the specs doesn''t mean much to me, but I have a feeling that those last 3 digits have some significance (263 vs. 162). I''m hoping someone here can shed some DLP Light on the subject and tell me what else is does or does not have.
Oh, I guess I should mention I was looking at a Samsung before but this RCA runs about $1000 less. That''s about 1000 reasons to look into it

For the slim designs the light engine (and I would guess quite a bit of the rest of the design) is done by Infocus. Infocus is extrmely respected in the front projector market, and are actually marketing the same product under their own brand. I now have heard that Thompson just bought out Infocus, which I hope doesn''t hurt the brand. BUt that is a huge difference between the slim lines and the rest of the DLP line

Check out the RCA HD61LPW163.
I have had one for about 30 days and I and extremely impressed with all aspects of the quality of this DLP unit ! This unit is available from several on-line sites at around $3000, including shipping ! I just had the RCA tech make a VERY minor adjustment to the cooling fan. He services several other makes and he said it was the best DLP picture he had seen. This was his first chance to see this model. He also commented that he is making a LOT of service calls on customers with plasma displays having problems with burn-in and color shifting. Not a problem with DLP sets. Good Luck ! |

Hey Yorker, any idea on how to convince the little lady that a 61" is needed over a 50"?

Radec,
Unless you have a severe restriction on space, don''t even consider the 50" DLP sets ! The 61" set really doesn''t take up that much more room and the picture is amazing. If RCA offered a 55-56" set I would have considered it but I am very pleased with this unit. To convince your wife, show her the small price difference. Also I think all RCA 50" sets use a HD3 DLP chip. The HD61LPW163, uses a HD2+ chip. It is a physically larger chip, and in the opinion of most gives a better quality picture. I just checked the RCA.com web site and was surprised to see that it has been extensively changed. Less than 2 weeks ago, the HD61LPW163 was listed with all specs, today it is not shown. I have a hunch it is being dropped in favor of a similar model that uses a HD3 chip. My suggestion is if you can find the 163 unit, buy it ! |
