Yes, but you'll know they're there...and so will we...

Looks pretty impressive, buy the dam speakers and amps and fire this puppy up....

Al...congrats

Officially done soldering everything on the board - finished plugging all the internal audio wires. (But not yet connected to the switch+panel.) These wires are all RG174, good shielding and a nice finished look, but very VERY tedious to prepare like this because of the need to unbraid the shield, and there are so many bloody wires... Took a long time. Did discover the joy of shrink wrap tubing with internal adhesive, very cool stuff. A whole lot better than little bits of electrical tape!

Mounted in the box:

Some detail of the wire splitting - tedious but the anal side of me is quite pleased with the result:

Tomorrow I will actually plug it in for the first time!

Helluva job Pauly! I admire fellas like yourself who have the patience to learn and experiment with stuff like this. Not my cup of tea but can still appreciate what you're getting into here and you'll be all the better off for it!

Man, that looks nice. Batman makes a good point about the patience. I wonder if I have the patience for such work. But then again, when you're making something for yourself, tedious work can be a little bit more enjoyable.

I can't wait until this thing gets its first use.

Most of this has been more fun than tedious. It's mainly just the RG174 prep that got a little boring... and I still have to do the other ends of all those wires.

Generally this has been a lot of fun. But it's like any hobby, like knitting or something, doesn't look like much fun unless you're really into it. For me, it's about the sense of accomplishment I get at the end - assuming the damn thing works! I'm almost scared to start testing... Creating something useful, saving some money on a quality product, and learning about circuit design along the way, all good bonuses.

imho this goes for anybody who has questions on whether to start a project like this...

If you can figure out how to get on this forum, better chance than not you can figure out how to do a project like this, start with a basic kit to get your feet wet and also in case ya screw up, not so spendy that way.

Slow and steady and don't hesitate to ask questions.
Start off small and work your way up
Measure twice, cut once...ya I know that's a woodworking saying but it kinda fits here too.
Spend the time to do it right.
Enjoy the experience and learning curve whether the project does what you expected or not.

Nicely done and kudo's to ya for a great DIY project.

Al

Default Power up

So Pauly do you have the equipment to run a test or would you like to try combining some gear and speakers to run some tests?

I might arrange a run with the Wifes approval for a Sunday visit?

I have some JBL L19 tweeters and some other dome mids available for a test run.

Thanks for the offer, J! But we'll be down in VA Sun-Mon with family for the long weekend. Maybe the weekend after? Or sometime on the way up to Bat's the week after, if we carpool, you can stop at my place and we can play with the toys for a while before heading up.

Dude, your fully legit. That looks great.

I'm assuming that this is going to be used with those Heresy's (it was heresy's right) you recently bought?

Man, I thought I had it bad.. we'll have to go to some support groups soon.

Oh, and doesn't RTS have the ability to test equipment like this?

Oh, and when are you going to buy the LSDC? I think that will be the the true beginning of the end.
